Many of our clients are schedule and preparing for their upcoming lawn renovation!
BEFORE WE ARRIVE:
Did you know that a single blade of grass only lives 40 days on average?
Each day our lawns are working to produce new blades (called tillers) to replace the old ones. This is why some lawns begin to thin out or look tired over time.
Many people already knows the benefits of aerating and overseeding the clay soil here in St. Louis, so then they start comparing prices and values to choose a lawn care provider to perform a fall renovation.
The cost of a lawn renovation is almost always directly related to the square footage of your property. Vendors apply a "secret formula" to come up with an average or standard amount of time and material needed to to cover the grounds.
In St. Louis county, the average lawn aeration cost can range from $99 to $300.
"Wait!" You might say. "This is quite a broad range. Besides, I've seen signs for aeration as low as $45!"
With less than a week to go, our maintenance teams are ready to lend a helping hand for party cleanup. We can prune, weed, and replant! Call us now to get on our schedule for a quick spruce before the neighbors and in-laws arrive!
Now is a great time to design and install affordable solutions to beautify your property - landscape upgrades you can enjoy for the rest of the summer and fall season!
Keep your flower beds well maintained - and your fresh new mulch in place - with landscape edging. We'll meet with you to select the best option for your yard, with options of materials like brick, stone, or aluminum.
One of our client's favorites seems to be the Bella Borderstone Edging (shown in a project of ours above) because of it's affordability and diversity. The small shape gives us unlimited design flexibility to border patios, driveways, sidewalks or beds. It comes in 4 different colors: charcoal, buff, red, and chocolate.
The soft splash of a fountain brings life and motion to your backyard. It attracts more birds and wildlife than still water alone, and its soothing soundtrack transforms your space into a peaceful retreat.
Getting your own backyard fountain installed by Dowco is simple. We'll meet with you and help you select your own custom color, shape and boulder size.
Whether you're looking to add an outdoor fire pit, replace a patio, or design a brand new walkway to the backyard, we have what you need to get the job done.
Also, consider replacing your failing or old retaining wall this year. While total wall collapses are rare, tilting out or leaning is very common in poorly built structures. Sometimes it can be remedied by rebuilding or correcting the cause of the failure. Othertimes, we recommend starting fresh with new material.
It depends. Sometimes the rainfall is enough to water your plants, but the best way to know is to feel the soil. However, during hot summer months and early fall, natural rainfall is not enough. Often, rain received during these periods produces mostly runoff and contributes very little to your plant's water requirements.
To determine if your plants need water, we recommend gently digging around the root zone with your fingers, 2-3” for small plants and 6-8” for larger plants and trees. If the soil feels dry to the touch, water is needed. If the soil feels moist, you don't need to water.
Did you know that Dowco pre-orders all of our annuals in February to be custom-grown just for our clients?
By ordering them early we ensure we get the best selection of robust plants in the exact color or variety you desire. We got our first delivery in on May 8th and will be installing flowers all month long!
But even if you missed it, there's still time to get a design from our horticulturists. We have pre-selected signature containers that will fit any budget, or we can design something custom for your unique space.
We're approaching the time to begin tidying up the growth on trees and shrubs. Some of our clients enjoy tightly-trimmed shrubs while others prefer them to have more texture.
When talking with your Dowco representative, it’s important to communicate your sense of “landscape style”.
Do you prefer a formal or a natural garden? Do you like your Boxwoods in a hedge or individualized? A good pruning strategy will develop trees and shrubs that are healthy, strong, and gorgeous!
There are a lot of holidays coming up like prom, graduation, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and more! If you have special timing requests, please let us know ASAP by using our client request center.
We love to help you impress your friends and family!
While you may see the Forsythia blooming already, the soil temperatures are still between 45-55 degrees, therefore Crabgrass is not yet germinating. Our fertilization program is underway and both rounds 1 and 2 contain a crabgrass pre-emergent.
We predict that we will be mowing very soon!
February 2nd marks the official mid-point of winter and we're looking for signs of the upcoming spring.
Our bed cleanups and shovel edging are underway. While we're not spreading mulch yet, we're taking the time to prepare the beds so when the weather warms up your property stands out!
Just like in Game of Thrones, there is an ongoing battle on your lawn to see who will rise and be the leader. The secret to helping desirable grass to win the battle is by eliminating the competition.
Dowco is here to help you do everything possible to swing the odds in your favor so that you can be the King or Queen of a green, beautiful lawn.
This fall we’re introducing a brand new service. Fall lawn composting will help you grow the greenest, lushest lawn you’ve ever had.
